As Mullins Therapy grows bigger every day, the question seems to come up more and more: what does it feel like to totally change someone's life?
Why I'm answering this now
I guess, until this moment, I hadn't really sat down and thought about it. Before this way of life, some would say I only ever took and never gave, but that wasn't true — I always seized the opportunities and moments in front of me, without thinking too much about the consequences. So it came as a surprise to me that, on a cold, wet, windy Saturday night, I finally found myself able to answer that question, and to let you reflect on any of your own along the way.
The road that got me here
This road we call life has taken many twists and turns for me over the years — some I got right, and some I got very wrong, but they were my choices to make, and I've always taken full responsibility for them, right or wrong. I'm not someone who sat in university to get a certificate that shows the world how smart I am. I studied what I know through trial and error, and through the British Army, which I'm very proud to have served in. I did, of course, also study for that certificate — but to me it's just another piece of paper in a frame on a wall in an office. It gave me the opportunity to pursue my passion and career, once my days of never quite growing up were behind me.
Fatherhood, and the second thing that changed everything
I've travelled to nearly every continent on this planet, and served alongside some of the bravest men and women you could ever wish to meet. I achieved a great deal in the Army, all at a fairly young age, holding some of the more senior positions it had to offer, and I enjoyed every bit of it. But only two things have ever given me what I get on a daily basis now. The first is being a father, which fills me with everything I could ever wish for. I grew into fatherhood quickly, and I'm extremely content in it — that's what makes me get up in the morning with real drive and focus. The second is the answer to the question this article is about.
What it feels like when someone truly shifts
I can honestly say I've never had a more humbling experience than watching a client shift and change during a session. It's something of beauty, and something I'm eternally grateful for — I don't think I'll ever get used to seeing it, or tire of being part of it. When someone finally realises that the emotion or issue they were facing isn't fixed in stone, the look in their eyes is one of the purest forms of relief you'll ever see. Most people come in believing the pattern they're dealing with is set for life, and don't see a way out — so that moment, when reality shifts, is one of the most meaningful things I've ever witnessed. To help change a life, and give someone their hope, focus, drive and confidence back, is a gift that keeps on giving, deep down, for me too.
If you're ready for that shift
For me, this feeling can't be bought, gifted, or compared to anything else I've done, and it tells me I'm exactly where I'm meant to be in life. If you're in a position where you want change, have a look at the clip below.
